Dr. Frederick Gandolfo was born and raised on Long Island. He was one of those kids who just always knew that he wanted to be a doctor, despite not having any family in the medical field. He was a premedical student at Fordham University, which is also where he met his future wife. During medical school, he was drawn to gastroenterology because of the balance between clinical problem solving and technical skills that are required by the field. The tangible and immediately rewarding nature of endoscopic procedures was what sealed the deal for his future in gastroenterology. This also answers one of the most common questions he gets from people: “How does a person end up choosing to be a gastroenterologist?”
After completing fellowship training in gastroenterology in New York City, Dr. Gandolfo moved back to Long Island and worked for several years with a large practice in Nassau County. He created a medical blog titled Retroflexions in 2015, and has been writing regularly ever since. His site now receives several hundred thousand views per year, and articles are regularly republished on some of the most popular internet sites in the medical field. In 2017, Dr. Gandolfo decided to go solo and Precision Digestive Care was born! The new practice opened its doors officially on May 1, 2018.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Gandolfo enjoys spending time with his wife Noreen and his two young children. He is an avid photographer and a fitness enthusiast. He enjoys reading on new topics, and learning new things in general.
